Within this context, CITA aims to contribute to the development of innovative architectural thinking and practice. Research questions are investigated through a practice-based research-by-design methodology that focuses on the conceptualisation, design, realisation and dissemination of working prototypes.

Recent work investigating growth simulations and adaptive parametrization provide a body of expertise that has direct relevance to the flora robotica project. This work resulted in the research-based installation “The Rise” which demonstrates the outcome of an architectural proposition grown in-silico. During the simulated growth cycle the proposition is able to sense and dynamically adapt to its environment while continuously reacting to feedback from its own material performance and behavioural constraints.

CITA is led by Prof. Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen and currently has 20 staff.
